​The European project ENGINEER is addressing the shortfall in expertise by introducing 1,000 teachers and 27,000 students from primary schools across Europe to the problem solving principles of engineering. Twenty-six institutions from twelve countries have committed to this challenging initiative of inspiring children to choose engineering for learning and fun.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva, where it spans the border between Switzerland and France about 100 m underground. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles – the fundamental building blocks of all things. It will revolutionise our understanding, from the minuscule world deep within atoms to the vastness of the Universe.

The Announcement of a Discovery at CERN

CERN has pretty much found the Higgs-Boson and scientists say, "Our understanding of the Universe is about to change, now the exciting work of understanding its significance begins". The man of the moment Professor Peter Higgs in the white shirt looks emotional as the announcement is made. In 1964 he and five other physicists were the first to proposed the existence of an invisible field lying across the Universe and giving particles their mass. (1.28 min)
