Make Your Own Axel Rover doc - a nice elastic band powered model, see movie opposite >

Easy for juniors Magic Cups (doc)- an energy transfer activity
Magic Cup (video)

Mouse Trap Car (pdf) nice plan from Energy Education Australia Inc. Try extending the spring loaded trap wire using dowel or fibreglass kite rods (up to a metre) This will allow more string to be added, make it easier to manage and go further.

Make a Rail Car - Science by Email activity that works well using magnets from Jaycar

Paper Roller Coasters - order templates for about AUS$20 from this clever website

Fountain of Fun - make a fountain in a bottle with Science by Email

Balloon Rotocopters doc ABC online science lesson plan. See Rostrata Student video and use this lesson from Dr Carlson's Science Theatre video of the Bernoulli Effect explained.

Brain Box
Brain Box 518 activities to do in this simple to use electronics kit. No soldering, just click on parts to complete the circuits.
These tough kits were road-tested in CSIRO’s school program and use press studs to join integrated circuits, switches, motors, LEDs, speakers and more. AA batteries required. (Don't put batteries in the wrong way or you'll be off to Jaycar to find new fuses at 35c each).

Learn about simple circuits in a fun way by making a jitterbug.
Make a Jitterbug doc 10.5 MB- innovative circuits activity, download the movie 9.4 MB or see right >>>>>>

Blobz Guide to Electric Circuits a wonderful interactive activity to learn about simple electronics
NB. Teachers. you will need to experience Blobz Guide before the lesson, it's great fun and was developed by creative genius and multi award winner Andy Thelwell.

All Ages                                                                                                           Rosco McGlashen visits Rostrata - Animoto
Sun Painting doc -  a must to start any energy program, daily temperatures  of +27c required.

Make a Hovercraft doc - using a CD

Make a CD Spectroscope PDF doc and split visible light into a
spectrum.

Visit our page here to help you: Make a Pop-stick explosion
Pop-stick weave chain reaction called the “Cobra Weave Exploding Stick Bomb”
Forget dominoes! Have a look at storing energy in jumbo pop-sticks. There is more than one pattern to use in this energy activity. Learn how to do this
Make Paper Planes - Alex Schultz designs paper aeroplanes and creates video and diagrams so you can learn how to make a brilliant paper aeroplane step by step. Look at paper blimps and run an investigation based on this design.
You've Got the Power Video (11 min) outs video from the California Energy Commission. Find the Movie Room and you'll find the video.

Hover Boards - the excitement is building!
Our SIS (Scientist in Schools) is Mr Kevin Quadros, Electronics Manager at Scitech. This week Kevin invited students from Rostrata Primary, Burrendah Primary and Balga Senior High to attend a Hover Platform Workshop. We will use critical thinking to not just build but propel the boards when we start producing them at school.

Making Waves
Wave Animation step by step lesson plan page
In deep water, every water molecule moves in a circular orbit and returns to its starting position as a wave passes by.
In this activity, from the Surfing Scientist, students build a simple computer model of a water molecule's orbital motion using standard presentation software. They copy, paste and animate their model to discover the motion of individual water molecules hidden within every wave. SEE video>>>>>

The Rostrata Terminator - simple bionics using large straws
Investigate Tendons and Ligaments using this simple technique. See Johnno's step by step vid of making the hand and look at some real bionics (credit New Scientist- Youtube)

Animation using Zoetropes is by far the best know of the "persistence of vision" toys. Invented in the early 19th century, see Disney video >>>>
