Teaching in a Primary Science Lab

Hello Everyone. I’m a Science Specialist Support Teacher at Rostrata Primary School in Perth Western Australia. I have run a Primary Science STEM Lab for the last fifteen years and as far as I know there is no better way of teaching primary science, technology, engineering and maths; if it can be set up in a school. There are a growing number of labs in Western Australia.

I teach science using web based technologies and hands on approach with my six hundred students each week. I use a variety of exciting  activities gathered from around the world to engage my students mostly using simple materials and equipment. This allows all our students to investigate the different sciences, become critical thinkers and achieve outcomes at a high level.

Science is at the Centre of Society

I have designed the website for use by students, parents, teachers, the wider community. There is a worldwide phenomenon where people and organisations produce high quality STEM learning materials for young students. Using the site I have attempted to store some of these amazing resources and will continue to do so.

Time is a teacher’s greatest enemy

Hopefully the information on this site may be of use to science teachers wherever they are. and help with time management. If you have any suggestions for inclusions please let me know. (contact me)

Rostrata's amazing STEM Lab is a runner up in the 2015 US based DiscoverE Educator Awards
Woodside engineer Saurabh Sharma's nomination of the Rostrata's STEM Education Program has netted the school international recognition. Saurabh said, 'It’s imperative to raise the profile of STEM education in primary schools. Rostrata does this with an open door policy to its amazing laboratory as a Teacher Development School (TDS); this inspirational experience empowers many teachers who visit. The progressive development of STEM education skills throughout formative years will be remembered by Rostrata's students for a lifetime and provides a foundation for specific learning pathways into high school, University courses and new careers".
